The Morning Routine That Transformed My Productivity

Two years ago I was chronically late, perpetually stressed, and couldn't understand why successful people kept talking about their morning routines. I dismissed it as self-help theater. Then I tried it — seriously, for 30 days — and everything changed.

The Science Behind It

Willpower and decision-making quality degrade throughout the day. This is well-documented in psychology research. By tackling your most important work first, you're using your highest-quality cognitive resources on the things that matter most.

My Current Routine (6:00 AM)

6:00–6:20 — No phone. This is non-negotiable. The moment you check email or social media, you've surrendered your attention to someone else's agenda.

6:20–6:45 — Movement. A 25-minute run or yoga session. This isn't about fitness — it's about activating your body and shaking off sleep inertia.

6:45–7:00 — Journaling. Three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing. No editing, no judgment.

7:00–7:30 — Deep work block #1. The single most important task of the day gets my undivided attention before breakfast.

The Compound Effect

Each of these habits seems small in isolation. But consistently applied over months, they create a version of yourself that operates at a fundamentally different level. Start with just one change. Add the next only when the first feels automatic.
